They are written for two MA programmes: one at the Free University of Brussels as a dissertation (in Dutch) and three at the European University in St Petersburg as working papers (in English).

  1. The Russian Federation: asymmetry in theory and practise

  2. Russian Universities: part of Civil or Political Society?

  3. The institutionalization of distinct features of narod and narodnost' under Communist rule

  4. The banning of dissident and factions inside the Communist Party: main factors and their relevance

About the author:

Ronald Hermans is from Overpelt, Belgium. Since childhood he fell under the spell of Russia, largely thanks to the stories his father brought to him as a steward from Moscow. But it is only in 1998, after his Bachelor in Communication Sciences, that he gets actively involved in Russia. Highly interested he attends prof Bruno Coppieters' course on 'Political Structures and Processes in Eastern Europe' as a part of his MA programme in Political Sciences. In 2000 he is awarded his MA with distinction on the basis of a dissertation about the asymmetric federal structure of Russia. After this he finishes his MA in Russian Studies at the European University in St Petersburg. Nowadays he is working in Sint Petersburg as a regional manager for DenHamer Industry Support and Training.
